Meet Susan

We need a Mayor who puts the needs of others first, who listens to Londoners and works hard to fix the issues that keep you up at night.

I have lived in London all my life, through the good times and the bad. Life is not as easy as it used to be for families in our city. That is why I want to put things right.

That is how I have lived my life. Working hard to fix things and provide for my family.

I left school aged eighteen and started working in my father’s garage, diagnosing faults on cars and helping fix them. Women rarely worked in garages then, but I loved it. I could often tell what the problem was just by the sound of the engine.

Then I started a hairdressing and beauty salon business in Harrow, employing up to twenty people at one point. I spent decades working hard to grow the business, especially when times were tough, so I could support my employees and my family.

As a councillor, I have worked tirelessly for my local community.

When I was leader of Harrow Council, I made it one of the safest boroughs in London and brought crime down, because we took crime seriously. We understood that by getting the local community involved, it gave them a greater sense of belonging and ownership over their local area.

We set up a Neighbourhood Champions programme, a grassroots movement against crime – local people, working in tandem with the police, other emergency services and the council.  Our Neighbourhood Champions helped fix local problems in the area, reporting anything from street crime to broken streetlights. We focused on problem spots and cleaned them up with Days of Action.

All these successes were achieved without raising Council Tax by a single penny. In fact, I froze it.

We listened to communities and made a difference.

Now I am running to be Mayor of London, so that I can listen to Londoners and make life better for you and your family.

I am listening to you, and my policies are written by you.

A plan for Londoners, by Londoners. Because that’s how we’re going to make things better – together.
